The Myth of Motivation and Inspiration
I literally waited for two decades and tried to cultivate and even conjure that moment of inspiration which would motivate me to lose weight and improve my health. I’ll cut to the chase. My message to you is that if you are waiting to be inspired, you might be waiting in vain. That moment never materialized for me.
Maybe you’re reading this blog in hopes that I will inspire you to change. In a way, I am. However, it’s not going to happen through inspiration. Am I telling you there’s no hope? Certainly not. What I’m telling you is that if you’re looking for the key to weight loss and a lasting change, that trick which will get you going, you may be looking in the wrong place.
The trick is there was no trick. No one trying to sell you a book or get you to follow their “one simple trick” is going to be a life changer for you. I don’t know this for sure but I’m guessing many others like me, those who have lost a lot of weight and been successful in keeping it off, have similar stories to mine.
My story isn’t about three simple tricks to do right now, eat these four things, or five simple exercises to do from your chair while napping to lose 100 pounds and keep it off forever. In fact, there was nothing easy about this. It was very hard work. I was tired all the time and hungry all the time. And, I worked at ALL THE TIME.
I do not intend to be the harbinger of bad news nor do I want to dissuade you from reading this blog, but tricks don’t work, diets are not sustainable, and there’s nothing easy or simple about this. What I know now is that my weight loss and fitness journey required a complete change of lifestyle. There’s no “going back to normal.”
